Project: National Museum of Natural History Store Renovation

Year Completed: 2011

Project Description:

The renovation of the gift store at the Natural History museum included extensive demolition of existing millwork and replacement of the cash wrap area and jewelry cases with newly designed custom pieces. The new store layout is more open, brighter, and provides better visitor flow. Exotic wood finishes and sophisticated colors enhance the interior. LED light boxes depicting iconic museum images were created through collaboration with the graphic designer and museum curators.

My Roles & Responsibilities:

I proposed demolition of some of the existing shelving in the space to open up the entry and create more of an entry experience. I presented space plan alterations to museum leadership and staff and coordinated all construction work. I designed the custom retail fixtures, jewelry cases, and specified lighting, including a color changing light fixture to highlight custom graphic panels.
