Project: African Art Museum Store Renovation
Year Completed: 2010
Project Description:
The Smithsonian Institution's African Art Museum Store was in poor condition with faded walls and insufficient store fixturing. Due to a very restrictive budget, store fixtures from a previous retail location were used to replace the existing fixtures in a more pleasing layout. Bright colors were added to the beige walls and the carpet was replaced with more appropriate geometric patterned carpet. The space came alive after the renovation and correlated more with the exhibition spaces.
My Roles & Responsibilities:
I developed the space plans, selected finishes and fixtures, presented the ideas to museum staff for approval, and coordinated all construction work. The museum staff, store staff, and visitors were all very pleased with the store's new look.
